Private Chef in Taipei
Pricing, services, and how to choose — a 2026 guide from Chef Carla Chang
Hiring a private chef in Taipei is not the same as booking a restaurant. The chef comes to your home or serviced apartment, sources the ingredients, cooks in your kitchen, plates each course, and cleans up — you keep the privacy of a home meal with the standard of a restaurant kitchen.
Most of our clients are expat families on multi-year assignments, corporate visitors hosting clients, postpartum mothers in confinement, families managing a medical diet, or couples celebrating an occasion at home. This guide explains what's actually on offer in Taipei, how the pricing works in NT$, and how to figure out which service fits your situation.
Four types of private chef service in Taipei
"Private chef" means different things in different contexts. Before you enquire anywhere, it's worth knowing which of these you actually want:
1. Single in-home dinner
A chef comes to your home for one evening — anniversary, client entertainment, a quiet date night. Typically 3–5 courses for 2–8 guests. Includes a menu consultation beforehand, all sourcing, cooking, plating, service, and cleanup. Booked per event.
2. Weekly meal prep
An ongoing arrangement — the chef cooks a week's worth of meals in your kitchen, usually once or twice per week. Standard pattern is 4 portions × 3 entrées plus sides. Best for working families, postpartum recovery, or anyone managing a complex diet at scale.
3. Specialty or medical-diet service
Chef-cooked meals tailored to a specific medical condition or life stage — postpartum nutrition, oncology recovery, diabetes management, severe allergies. Menu is built around dietary requirements from day one, not retrofitted. Often combined with weekly meal prep.
4. Private kitchen restaurant (different)
Often confused with private chef service. A 私廚 (private kitchen) is dining at the chef's home — a fixed menu, fixed location, multiple bookings per night. Not the same as a chef coming to you. Flick of Salt is the latter, not the former.
NT$ pricing guide
We publish pricing as ranges, not fixed line items — every booking is sized to your menu, headcount, and dietary scope. Enquire for an exact quote based on your specific event or weekly plan.
| Service type | Typical range (NT$) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single in-home dinner (4–8 guests) | Enquire for quote | Includes prep, sourcing, cooking, plating, service, cleanup |
| Weekly meal prep (4 portions × 3 dishes) | NT$2,000–4,000 groceries + service fee | 4-week minimum recommended |
| Specialty diet (postpartum, medical) | Custom quote | Based on complexity, duration, dietary scope |
| Event catering (10+ guests) | Custom quote | Multi-course menus, dietary accommodations |
Context: a fine-dining dinner for six in Taipei easily exceeds NT$3,500–5,000 per head, plus reservation difficulty, transport, and language friction. A private chef evening at home often costs less per person and removes all of that — you also get the menu built around your guests' preferences and restrictions, not the restaurant's standing menu.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a private chef cost in Taipei?
Single in-home dinners are quoted per event based on menu complexity and headcount. Weekly meal prep starts around NT$2,000–4,000 in groceries plus a service fee per session, with a 4-week minimum recommended. Specialty and medical diets are quoted individually. Send your scope for an exact figure.
What's the difference between a private chef and catering?
Catering delivers prepared food to your event. A private chef cooks fresh in your kitchen, plates each course, serves your guests, and cleans up. Catering scales better for very large parties; a private chef gives you menu personalisation and a fine-dining experience at home for smaller gatherings (typically 2–12 guests).
Can short-term visitors book?
Yes. We work with visitors on week-long or two-week stays in serviced apartments and short-term rentals across Taipei — anniversary dinners, family meals during a holiday, or daily meal prep for a corporate trip.
Do you accommodate vegan or allergy diets?
Yes. We have dedicated services for vegan and plant-based menus, severe food allergies, and medical diets. Every menu is built around restrictions from day one — share your requirements when you enquire.
Which Taipei neighbourhoods do you serve?
Central Taipei — Da'an, Xinyi, Zhongshan, Songshan, Tianmu — plus Neihu, Banqiao, and select adjacent districts. Serviced apartments and hotel suites with a working kitchen are welcome. Confirm your address when enquiring.
